Research

I am a geotechnical engineer interested in the interaction between soil microorganisms, the global carbon cycle and climate. My research focuses on the incorporation of microbial and ecological insights from the field of microbial ecology into biogeochemical models. In particular, I develop mechanistic models to characterize the response of soil microbial communities to different sources of environmental stress, such as moisture or temperature, and their implications for the soil carbon balance. In the University of Lund, I act as a link between empiricists and modellers using an iterative approach: the results from the lab/field experiments are used to inform models, and simulations (virtual experiments) are used to identify uncertainties to be further tested experimentally.
