Research

Alberto holds a Master in Human Rights Law from the American University in Cairo (2012) and a PhD in International Law from Sciences Po Paris (2019).

His first monograph on the figure of the foreign fighter has been published in December 2024 by Cambridge University Press.

Alberto has worked on the role of human rights in state of emergency, the intersection between IHL and IHRL, and the balance between counter-terrorism and fundamental freedoms.

He has taught a wide range of courses in public international law (PIL), humanitarian law (IHL) and human rights (IHRL) at both Bachelor and Master levels. 

His work bridges traditional legal scholarship with emerging disruptive technologies (EDT) and artificial intelligence (AI) in the context of global conflicts and of evolving security challenges.
