My research focuses on two main areas:
The development of professional behaviors during surgical specialization. I am involved in a longitudinal research project aimed at identifying factors in physicians and the learning environment that encourage or hinder the development of professional behaviors in surgeons. The project follows doctors during their surgical specialization through repeated laparoscopic simulations, personality tests, clinical assessments, and interviews. Our goal is to develop tools for the recruitment and training of surgeons that can be used to enhance competence within the profession.
Evaluation of medical humanities education in medical training. In the medical program at Lund University, there are medical humanities courses integrated both as mandatory teaching and as elective courses. We are exploring the impact that education in medical humanities has had on physicians in their professional lives after graduation.
These research areas are interconnected through the concept of 'phronesis,' according to Aristotle's theory of knowledge. Phronesis is described as the ability to make wise decisions in complex situations, to understand what is most important in a specific context, and to act accordingly. In my doctoral project, I explore how phronesis manifests in the medical profession in general and in surgeons specifically, and how the development of phronesis can be promoted.
I regularly teach seminars in ethics, how to deliver difficult news and litterature seminars in the medical program at Lund University. As a physician at the Pediatric Clinic at Skåne University Hospital, I continuously mentor medical students during clinical work.
Previously, I worked part-time as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Medicine Centre for Teaching and Learning (MedCUL), where I was the course leader for a three-week course in higher education (Perspectives on course design) and taught in various programs within the faculty.
