Research

Initially, the focus of my research was on groundwater vulnerability to mining pollution. The main question was whether groundwater was exposed to risk of pollution coming from gold mining. This question was addressed by using several hydrogeological and geophysical techniques. Thereafter, my work addressed the applicability of some of those methods to understand the geological environment and the relations between surface and groundwater. The results contributed to the understanding of the hydrogeological conditions in the particular case, but indicated that there is much to understand in this field and that most likely every geological setting is unique.

Nowadays, my major interest is the derivation of hydrogeological parameters based on geophysical and geotechnical measurements. How much can we get to know about the hydrogeological properties of the subsurface through measuring the physical properties of the rocks at different scales?
