Current research

Anders Uhlin is professor of Political Science and chair of the Department’s Research Committee (2018-2020). His main research interests are in the fields of civil society, transnational activism, global governance, and democratization. Uhlin’s most recent monograph analyses the role of civil society actors in a possible democratization of international organizations and other forms of global governance arrangements. More specifically, it is about civil society engagement with the Asian Development Bank and ASEAN: Civil Society and Regional Governance: The Asian Development Bank and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Uhlin is currently active in three research programs or projects: 1) LegGov where he studies the legitimation and delegitimation of international organizations; 2) Civil Society Elites? Comparing Elite Composition, Reproduction, Integration and Contestation in European Civil Societies; and 3) Civil Society Elites: New Perspectives on Civil Society in Cambodia and Indonesia.


Uhlin has been teaching and supervising widely on all levels, for example within the fields of development studies, international politics, and democratization. In November 2011 he obtained the title Excellent Teaching Pracitioner (ETP).
