Research

My main research field is Acoustofluidics, i.e. the combination of sound fields with small flow channels. By applying an acoustic standing wave field across a small flow channel containing particles or cells, it is possible to manipulate and sort named particles and cell as they experience an acoustic force causing them to migrate in the liquid. Depending on the physical property of the particle or cell, they will experience different amount of force an thus migrate different distances allowing them to be separated by size, density and compressibility. I mainly work with different types of blood cells, as well as cancer cell lines.
