Currently, I am together with professors Richard Dyer and Tytti Soila, editing a volume on Swedish/Italian actress and celebrity Anita Ekberg. My own contributions consists of two chapters. The first chapter will give an overview of Ekberg’s Hollywood career, both in films and as a celebrity, and explore and analyse the writings about Anita Ekberg in the American press and media to find out how she was apprehended and constructed as a new Swedish star in Hollywood and how notions and ideas about Sweden, sexuality, gender and stereotypes were negotiated and reproduced through Ekberg. The second chapter will follow the changes in Ekberg’s performances during her years in Hollywood and Italy. It will also examine how different national film cultures, directors, and genres influenced her acting choices.
