Anna Nilsson is associate senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law. Her research cover issues of discrimination and self-determination in psychiatric care, equal treatment and supported decision-making when participating in research studies, proportionality argumentation and the exercise of discretion in international law.

In her doctoral dissertation, she examines whether and, if so, under what circumstances, compulsory mental health care is lawful under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). One of her conclusions is that we should abolish the compulsory hospitalization and treatment of pwpd for the purpose of preventing future violent crimes as such compulsory interventions violate the prohibition of discrimination set forth in CRPD.

Prior to embarking on an academic career, Anna worked for several years as a lawyer at the Swedish Equality Ombudsman and as legal advisor to the Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Anna is course director of the course International Human Rights Law II (JAMR41) at the Master's program in International Human Rights Law, and teaches Swedish and international human rights law. She has also taught in multidisciplinary contexts, at the Department for Gender Studies and the Department of History in Lund.

I cooperate with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute to support the development of capacity with academic institutions and independent human rights centers worldwide to plan, implement and deliver human rights education and training and contribute to the institutionalization of such programs. My lectures have covered human rights law in general, and issues of non-discrimination, disability, and national human rights institutions in particular. I have mainly engaged with participants from Belarus, Turkey and Cambodia.
