Personal profile

Research

Main research & teaching areas:

  • comparative & international education (with focus on China/East Asia)
  • sociology of education
  • globalization and education

Current teaching & research:

My courses range from broader theoretical and methodological issues in the social sciences to more specific topics in education (such as educational governance and policies, privatization and marketization in education etc.). My research interests include transnational educational governance, knowledge transfer (e.g. between China and the 'West'), social inclusion and exclusion through education, education and development, and education & ICT/ICT4E. In my current research projects I am investigating (1) private schools in urban China (funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond), (2) the ramifications of the digitization in Chinese education and training (funded by the Swedish Research Council), and (3) the complexities of ethnic minority education in Southwest China (funded by the Crafoord Foundation).
