My research investigates the challenges to digital literacy that has arisen due to the increased dissemination of AI manipulated content on social media. I will focus on audiovisual synthetic media, like visual generative AI and deepfakes. My thesis explores the information practices of young adults in relation to audiovisual synthetic media, both as producers and actors in their circulation, while also investigating how deepfakes are used on social media to disseminate disinformation and undermine trust.
