Personal profile

Research

I am a professor of social work, but have previously worked in both political science (in which I have a PhD) and criminology.

My research has a broad focus on issues related to drug addiction and other substance-related problems in society - including drug policy, the organisation and practice of addiction services, medication-assisted treatment of opioid addiction, the illicit transfer of medicines, opioid-related mortality, and alcohol prevention and drinking among young people. I have also conducted research on crime victimisation among parents of adult children with drug problems, the construction of social problems with a focus on sickness absence and social security policy, and policy diffusion/translation.

My current research focuses on adolescents and young adults who expose their parents to violence and other forms of abuse.

I work at all levels of education (undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate), again with a focus on substance-related problems. I am responsible for the course Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence (SOAO02, 10 credits).
