Research

I am an ecologist with a background in biology. I'm especially interested in forests whether temperate, boreal, or tropical.

Forests in Europe have been heavily modified since the Holocene due to anthropogenic habitat fragmentation and modification. In Sweden, there's no official map or records about primary forests - forests have had little to no human disturbance. However, these ecosystems have intrinsic value in their ability to define natural baseline states and dynamics without any anthropogenic influence.

My research group and I have created the first map of primary forests in Sweden. With the use of this unique map, I will focus on three major themes during my Ph.D.:

(1) Where are the remaining Swedish primary forests, and why are they still untouched?

(2)How does the C stock of Swedish primary forests change over time?

(3)What is the natural biodiversity state of Swedish primary forest, and have managed forests retained it?
