Personal profile
Research
My research interest is in occupational therapy and psychiatry, and in my PhD thesis I have focused on day centers and daily activities for people with psychiatric disabilities. I presented my PhD thesis ”Engagement in community-based day centres for people with psychiatric disabilities” in 2012. Occupational engagement, balance and time use has been important throughout my research and the Assessment POES-P, (Profiles of Occupational Engagement in persons with Severe mental illness – Productive occupations) was used in all articles in my thesis. I explored qualitative, quantitative and psychometric testing of the assessment.
During my post-doc I have worked as a project coordinator in a project concerning everyday activities in supported housing led by Professor Mona Eklund. Together with the research group I have developed an intervention strategy for both staff and residents called AiMH (Active in My Home). I’ve also worked as a project coordinator in another research project called BEL. BEL is testing an intervention that aim to balance everyday living for people with psychiatric disabilities. Both interventions mentioned above are group based occupational therapy programs within community mental health settings in Sweden.
During my studies to become an occupational therapist I wrote my bachelor thesis "An exploratory study of how occupational therapists address quality of life with cancer patient - Melbourne, Australia" and was written during studies at La Trobe University. I then worked in oncology and hospice care in Malmö. I had the opportunity to participate in building up occupational therapy service in a new hospice setting, and to participate in writing a treatment program for Palliative Care. My master thesis focused on creative activity groups. I have also worked on an acute psychiatric ward in conjunction with my work as a lecturer and as a research project assistant.
Since 2002 I have been teaching occupational therapy, models, methods, psychosocial occupational therapy, creative activities, and play environments importance for health and wellbeing. I have studied university pedagogics and helped develop new courses and worked as a supervisor and been a course leader in many different courses throughout the occupational therapy program.
