    Personal profile

    Research

I graduated in Economics in 2005 and I got my PhD in Epidemiology in 2010 at the University of Ancona (Italy). I have collaborated with the Italian National Institute of Health and Science on Ageing (INRCA) between 2008 and 2017. In 2011 I have been guest researcher at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). But since 2012, I regularly collaborate since 2012 with CASE - Center for Ageing and Supportive Environment - at Lund University, dividing my time between Sweden and Italy.

In my past professional experience, I have been consultant for many health organizations in projects aimed at improving services organisation. Now, my research interests span from health services research, new technology for care, and health economics. I also have a special interest for the area of dementia care, since I have coordinated a number of triasl (UP-TECH and TECH@HOME project), aimed at improving the provision of care for dementia patients using of AAL technologies.

I am co-founder of a start-up company in Italy, Tech4Care Srl (www.tech4care.it), which aims to develop innovative ICT solutions for supporting healthy ageing and wellbeing through the use of Virtual Reality and/or home-based sensors networks.

    Research

My background is in Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Health Economics. My research interests span from the analyses of environmental determinants of health in old age to effectiveness and cost-effectiveness research of interventions for health and active ageing. Recently, I have been exploring the role of new technologies for supporting independent living of people ageing with chronic conditions, such as dementia and stroke.

In my previous position in Italy, I have been project manager of a large trial (UP-TECH), funded by the Ministry of Welfare, for evaluating the impact of telemonitoring on dementia care processes. Currently, I lead a research group testing a similar technology in Sweden, within the framework of the FORTE-funded TECH@HOME study. Together with colleagues from various disciplines, we recently started to evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of applying Immersive Virtual Reality Technology to Stroke Rehabilitation.
