Personal profile

My main research interests are agrarian social relations during the 18th and 19th centuries, gender history and labour history. I defended my thesis in Economic history in 2018 at the University of Gothenburg. In my thesis, Servants and masters (I husbondens bröd och arbete), I studied servants in agrarian households. I use theories on power relations derived from gender history and institutional theory in order to analyse the social relations that were created in the servant institution. Since March 2019, I hold a post doc position in Economic history, in the project “Dynamic peasants? Agency and inequality in Swedish modernization”. In this project, I study the peasant farmers’ agency in the Diet of the four estates. My first project concerns the peasant farmer politicians’ standpoint on the Servant Acts, in which I’m analysing their double position as law makers and masters/employers to servants.

I have been teaching Method courses and courses on the Swedish model concerning gender equality and family policy in Economic history, in English and Swedish. I have also been teaching Gender studies, as well as Bachelor thesis writing and I have been a supervisor for Bachelor theses in various subjects in the social sciences and the humanities.

I willingly give lectures on servants and agrarian social relations when asked to by various public institutions and associations such as local heritage societies and genealogical societies. I have also presented my research in articles in the local press.
