Adjunct senior lecturer, Associate Professor
My research activities focus on the gut bacterial flora and its relation to health and disease.
I graduated with a M.Sc. in Science, molecular biology and microbiology in 2006 and earned my Ph.D. in Food Hygiene from Lund University in 2011. In the PhD thesis “The Gut Bacterial Flora - Focus on Early Life and Physiological Traits” I investigated the impact of microbial diversity and the early microbial flora on health, including the possibilities to use probiotic bacteria.
Since 2016 I am Associated Professor in Nutrition and my research is focused on gut health, the gut microbial ecosystem and how it is affected by e.g. dietary intake, health and disease. Currently I am working in the field of nutritional stress management including human trials in a virtual environment.Recently an animal model, for use in nutrition studies, was developed. Furthermore, identification of potential probiotic bacteria and evaluation of its physiological and microbiological effects are also of significant interest.
I work with both human trails and animal models with research including probiotics, nutrition, microbial diversity, bioactive compounds, stress, antibiotics, and features of the metabolic syndrome including obesity and liver problems, and immunological disorders as allergic manifestations.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
