Carsten Peterson

Have done research in theoretical physics, applied mathematics and computational biology for more than 40 years. The topics have evolved from elementary particle physics during the graduate and postdoc eras into statistical mechanics, spin systems, machine learning, statistics, thermodynamics of macromolecules including protein folding/design, properties of genetic networks and computational biology in general during the faculty years. In this development, more attention has gradually been paid to problems of interdisciplinary nature.

Current focus is on biophysical models describing how genes/proteins determine cell fates with emphasis on stem cell commitment and reprogramming of mature cells back into stem cells.  Also, my interests in finding biomarkers have been revitalized for cancer diseases in high-throughput settings.

Very recently I also entered the field of quantum computing with emphasis on biological applications..

In summary my expertise covers quite a few areas within computational science.
