Personal profile

I lead the research group Work-related musculoskeletal disordersat the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in Lund. Our main focuses are ergonomics and hand-arm vibration syndrome.

Over the years, we have developed methods for objective registration of postures, work movements and muscle activity with small body-worn sensors. With these we have been able to determine the load in a wide range of occupational groups. At the same time, we have gathered information on the prevalence of complaints and diagnoses in the upper body with a standardized clinical examination.

Pooling of data from many epidemiological studies has made it possible to calculate dose-response relationships and we are now proposing levels of action that one should be below in order not to be exposed to the risk of strain injury.

We also research the effect of hand-held vibrating tools. Our main contribution is the evaluation of technical monitoring of exposure. We have also mapped the occurrence of vibration damage in the construction sector and we collect blood samples from patients who come to Occupational and Environmental Medicine South with suspected hand-arm vibrationn syndrome, to look for markers for neurogenic or vascular damage.
