Current research
My work has developed in three main areas: (1) the study of social movement radicalization and related political violence; (2) the macroscopic analysis of public identity transformations, especially as they relate to social boundaries and different styles of rule; and (3) the connection between sociological theory and epistemology, particularly processes and mechanisms. Combining all three areas but mainly developing the first of them, the major project I currently work on studies the legitimization of political violence in Ireland (early 20th century) and Cyprus (mid-20th century).
My teaching covers piecemeal some of my areas of research, but mostly regards the general instruction of methods, epistemology, and theory.
