Personal profile


I am a PhD student working with cosmogenic radionuclides from ice cores. My project aims at using 10-beryllium and 36-chlorine from ice cores to search for extreme solar storms in the past, in order to broaden our knowledge on the probability of occurrence of such extreme events and to gain more insights on their possible magnitude. Solar storms can in fact represent a threat to our modern society, affecting communication and electronic systems, damaging satellites and endangerning the health of astronauts in space. For this project, i collected thousands of excess meltwater samples from Continuous Flow Analysis (CFA) measurements of ice cores, otherwise discarded. These samples will provide a useful tool to scan through the Holocene to search for more extreme solar storms.
