Personal profile

Research

Climate issues are among the biggest issues in today's society and are of utmost importance for everyone's future. Today's situation with greenhouse gases, rising temperatures and more frequent extreme weather events did not arise overnight, but now is the time to shift towards sustainable solutions in as many areas as possible. My research is about heat and energy conversion and transfer processes, which is something that is happening everywhere around us. Fossil fuels and materials are being phased out, and it is then important that what we introduce as replacements can be used efficiently and sustainably. For a productive development of such complicated processes and materials, there is much to be gained by working with simulations in combination with experiments. The goal of my research is to develop accurate and cost-effective simulation models for such processes, whether it concerns combustion or electric engines, batteries, fuel cells, or heat exchangers.

In my research, I use high-performance computer systems and advanced physical models to study physical and chemical processes through simulations. This requires us to develop a very good insight into how different sub-processes work so that we can describe them in our models and produce relevant and reliable results that describe reality. For example, we work on understanding how biofuels work in aircraft engines, how small amounts of electrical energy can stabilize and improve combustion in gas turbines and how heat exchangers can be made thermally more efficient. Much of the research is done in collaboration with national and international companies and institutes as well as other departments at Lund University. This makes my work incredibly exciting, and my research group can work in a creative environment at the absolute forefront of research.
