Research

Translational research group involving Surgery, Oncology, Dermatology, Pathology, Epidemiology and Molecular biology. Studies focus on UV-radiation and tanning devices. The CDKN2A (unique Swedish founder mutation) described by our group gives a 70 % risk for melanoma with no specific phenotype. International collaboration via GenoMEL since 15 years with EU support. A new molecular subdivision of melanoma has been proposed by us where activation of pigmented and proliferative genes gives poor prognosis and immune genes good prognosis.  A prospective biobank (BioMEL) with epidemiological data, blood and tumour biopsies from every melanoma (primary and metastatic) focus on the development naevi to invasive melanoma. Treatment prediction of the new revolutionary treatments for metastatic melanoma with BRAF-inhibitors and immune modulators is also studied. The dermatoscopic appearance is compared to molecular biology.  LMSG is supported by CF, EU, LU, Region Skåne and several trusts.
