Personal profile

Research

I am a Senior Lecturer in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, Sweden. My research centers on the development and application of biomarkers to address critical questions in occupational and environmental health, epidemiology, and risk assessment. A key ambition in my work is to ensure that our analytical methods are robust, innovative, and directly applicable to real-world challenges.

I have extensive experience in developing biological and environmental monitoring techniques, with a particular emphasis on advanced mass spectrometry based methods. My research spans environmental contaminants—including endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) and pesticides—as well as effect biomarkers and modifiers such as vitamin D and oxidative stress. I have applied these methods widely in population- and field-based studies, contributing to improved understanding of human exposure and health risks.

I played a central role in establishing our state-of-the-art infrastructure “targeted exposomics” laboratory at Lund University, which is equipped with cutting-edge mass spectrometry platforms. Our team has substantial expertise in analytical method development and implementation, supporting both national and international research efforts.

My work is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. Over the past two decades, I have been a core participant in a long-standing research program investigating occupational and environmental pesticide exposure in Central America, supported by funding from Sweden, Canada, and the U.S. NIH. In the past 10 years several countries in south America and Africa are participating in our pesticide projects
