Research

I work in the field of photoredox catalysis driven by visible light and iron N-heterocyclic carbene complexes. My research project is about using this type of catalysis to perform the reduction of water to produce hydrogen. This hydrogen is a fuel and it can be used in the catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide to other valuable chemicals and fuels. Overall, the aim is to develop an Earth-abundant photochemical reduction system of carbon dioxide for the production of fuels. Moreover, I am working in a base-promoted homolytic aromatic substitution (BHAS) reaction photocatalytic process using an iron N-heterocyclic carbene complex developed in our group as the photocatalyst to synthesize aromatic moieties that can be found in pharmaceutical and natural products.
