Research

As an academic, Dr. Hellström’s research coalesces under the broad umbrella of Packaging Logistics. His research can be categorised into three interconnected research streams: the first relating to reverse logistics/closed-loop supply chains/returns management, the second to omnichannel retailing/ fulfilment operations/delivery service, and the third to packaging design and innovation for sustainable supply chain practices. Majority of his work has been conducted in close external collaboration with companies and in an international environment.

Dr. Hellström is Associate Professor and Head of Division at Packaging Logistics in the Department of Design Sciences at the Faculty of Engineering LTH, Lund University. In addition, he is the Research Director of ReLog at Campus Helsingborg and Co-Director for the Centre for Retail Research at Lund University, an interdisciplinary centre of excellence.

Teaching

Dr. Hellström has been accepted into LTH’s Pedagogical Academy and awarded the distinction of Excellent Teaching Practitioner (ETP). He is supervising several PhD students at Lund University. As a member of the team leading LTH Career Academy from 2020 to 2023, he dedicated himself to supporting newly appointed associate senior lecturers with a focus on pedagogy, networking, personal development, and leadership. Previously, he was Programme Director at Lund University for the Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus + Joint European Master Programme: Food Innovation and Product Design (FIPDes). He was Director of Studies at the division of Packaging Logistics during 2009-2019.
