Research

My current research is focused on conflicts around conspiracy theories. Together with colleagues from the CONSPIRATIONS project, we aim at uncovering the way in which societies construct the concept of a "conspiracy theory" and how the meaning of this concept, and its functioning, is shaped by the social context. My contribution to the project consists of conducting an ethnographic case study on the production of political knowledge in Belgium.

My previous research, funded by the French Red Cross Foundation, dealt with survival strategies of Ukrainian refugees in France. Together with two other members of our research team, we conducted fieldwork in three regions of France in 2023, investigating livelihood strategies developed by Ukrainian war migrants, as well as their changing political identities.

In 2024, I published a monograph that sums up the research I conducted in Ukraine between 2018 and 2020. This is a politico-economic ethnography of an industrialised town in Eastern Ukraine. In this book, The Making and Unmaking of the Ukrainian Working Class: Everyday Politics and Moral Economy in a Post-Soviet City, I analyse lifeworlds of my working-class interlocutors, reconstructing their (a)political attitudes from the social and economic environment that has been shaping their lives during the last three decades.

Teaching

I have been teaching in various universities, in English and French, since 2019. The courses I conceived and taught include general introductions (Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Political Science etc.), methods classes (Methods of Social Sciences, Qualitative Methods of Social Inquiry), as well as more specialised courses (Social History of Political Ideas; Social Class and Inequalities). I have also supervised individual students' research projects.
