Research

My field of interest is the use and interpretation of the so called 'imprecatory psalms' (i.e. passages from The Book of Psalms that invoke vengeance and violence on enemies) with special emphasis on modern (Western) Christian liturgical use and reception of Pss. 58, 109, 137 and 139. My doctoral thesis investigates how these psalms have been exegeted in commentary litterature during the 21st century and in what way the popular generic interpretative strategies are relevant for worshipping communities that wish to use the Book of Psalms liturgically but struggle with the Psalm's frequent mentions of and calls for vengeance and violence.
