My research with Karen Edler and Hanna Wacklin explores the mechanics of the formation of polymer-stabilised lipid nanodiscs from lipid monolayers at the air/water interface, primarily using neutron and x-ray reflectometry. In addition, the morphologies of the final discs are characterized by complementary techniques. The amphiphilic polymers that form such nanodisc structures with lipids are gaining interest as a method of abstracting membrane proteins from cell walls while retaining their native lipid environment, and therefore folding and function. As a Swedish In-Kind contribution to the ESS, I also belong to the FREIA neutron reflectivity instrument team and am procuring and commissioning and off line X-ray reflectometer for the ESS.
I have a background in Small Angle X-ray Scattering; both instrumentation and usage. Specifically, I used this technique to probe the morphology and self-assembly of structures in high-performance aqueous polyurethane-based dispersions.
