Emma Claesdotter-Knutsson, MD, PhD is an adjunct professor and senior consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Lund University and Skåne University Hospital, Sweden. Her work focuses on the intersection between digital media use, adolescent mental health, and family processes. She has a particular research interest in problematic gaming, excessive screen use, and the development and evaluation of family-based interventions within clinical settings.

Dr. Claesdotter-Knutsson’s research integrates psychiatric epidemiology, developmental psychology, and clinical intervention science. She leads and collaborates on projects examining how digital environments influence children’s psychosocial functioning, including studies on parent–child relationships, stress, and relational mechanisms underlying behavioral difficulties. A central aim of her work is to develop accessible, evidence-based interventions that can be implemented within routine Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

In addition to her work on digital media and mental health, she has contributed to research on eating disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, and longitudinal outcomes in adolescent psychiatry. Her research is characterized by a translational perspective, bridging clinical practice and public health, with a strong emphasis on family-centered approaches and early intervention.
