Erik Berndalen, born 1981, studied at Malmö Academy of Music from 2002 to 2007 in the fields of arranging, composition, music theory and conducting. Since 2010 he is a lecturer in music theory, arranging and aural training at Malmö Academy of Music and he has also worked at S:t Sigfrids Vocational College in Växjö between 2008 and 2016.
Erik has written arrangements for a large number of professional ensembles in Sweden, among others the symphony orchestras in Malmö and Norrköping and sinfoniettas in Jönköping and Falun. He has also had a long collaboration with the Band of The Royal Swedish Navy as arranger and conductor and received several medals and grants from the Swedish Society of Military Music.
As a jazz musician (trumpet) he has performed at festivals in Finland, Germany, Poland, Italy, Japan and Australia since the 1990s and received the Swedish Traditional Jazz Society's Louis Armstrong grant in 2001.
