Personal profile

Research

As head of the Sport Sciences research group, my work focuses on the prevention and management of musculoskeletal injuries and diseases across the lifespan—from youth to older adulthood. Our target populations include both athletes and non-athletic individuals who have, or are at higher risk of, joint-related conditions such as hip or knee injuries. The overarching goal is to improve opportunities for lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.

Our research is interdisciplinary and grounded in a lifespan perspective. We aim to:

  • Examine how injuries affect physical and psychosocial function,
  • Develop and validate clinically practical outcome measures,
  • Investigate whether good muscle function can protect against initial injuries and future joint problems,
  • Design and evaluate new intervention strategies,
  • Implement evidence-based practices in real-world settings.
