Personal profile

Research

My main research area concerns the study of digital special-purpose monies designed by communities and articulated with the state in different levels to promote a sustainable production and consumption in their territories. I approach the field from an interdisciplinary dialogue that involves socio-economy, sociology of law and political ecology analyzing the dynamics between the actors and elements in the design of a money for a socio-ecological transformation. In particular, I aim to analyze the processes by which communities from different social contexts (both in the Global North and in the Global South) design a currency to promote a change in the production and consumption beyond the imperative of growth.

The doctoral research is framed in a larger project called “Special-purpose money: Complementary digital currencies and the sustainable development goals”, which explores the fundamentals to promote sustainable practices, as well as the extent to which their infrastructure enable the creation of a complementary socio-economic system that captures and transacts value other than those recognised by general purpose money (GPM).
