Research

My research is focused on analyzing and interpreting petrographic and chemical features of meteorites, and where I am particularly interested in a group of puzzling stony-iron meteorites called mesosiderites.

My current Ph.D. project is aimed at investigating numerous unstudied mesosiderites to answer three main questions:

  1. What role did impacts and shock metamorphism play in the formation and evolution of mesosiderites?
  2. Where within the solar system do mesosiderites come from, and do they have a common excavation event with the HED meteorites?
  3. When did the mesosiderites form, and where did the metal come from?

I will utilize several methods to try to answer these questions:

  • Polarized microscopy (Lund)
  • SEM-EDS/EBSD (Lund)
  • Noble gas and radionuclide mass spectrometry (Switzerland and USA)
  • Hf-W geochronology using MC-ICPMS (USA)
