Research

The epidemiology of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases is studied using well-examined population-based cohorts with extensive information about risk factors and long follow-up periods. Potential biomarkers for disease are analysed from blood samples stored in biobanks. The specific research projects include prospective studies with the purpose of identifying biomarkers for myocardial infarction and stroke, risk factors for developing atrial fibrillation and cardioembolic stroke, and the interrelationships between pulmonary function and cardiovascular disease.
