Molecular characterization and epidemiology of acute myeloid leukemia (AML)in adults. Swedish patients with AML have been prospectively reported to the nationalBlood Cancer Registry since 1997, which now contains data on diagnosticresults, management and outcome for more than 6000 patients(http://www.cancercentrum.se/samverkan/cancerdiagnoser/blod-lymfom-myelom/akut-myeloisk-leukemi-aml-inkl-akut-oklassificerad-leukemi-aul/kvalitetsregister/), and represents an unique database with real worlddata, especially for the majority of patients that are older (median age 71years). Since 2014 all new AML patients in our department have a bonemarrow sampled for next generation sequencing including whole exome andRNA sequencing. A comparison with constitutional DNA from skin biopsy isperformed to assess leukemia-specific abnormalities. Follow-up samples toassess minimal residual disease and clonal changes at subsequent diseasedevelopment is also collected and analyzed. Rare clinicopathologicalassociations are being identified, and clinical associations defined, in closecollaboration between laboratory and clinical department.
