Current research

I'm a postdoctoral researcher in architecture working at the intersection of housing, ageing, health, and sustainability. My PhD examined how non-institutional housing can support the well-being of older people, and my current research extends this focus to living environments that nurture both people and the planet. Through qualitative and creative methods, I explore ways of designing spaces that are inclusive, adaptable, socially connected, and aligned with planetary limits. This work currently takes shape through my involvement in the following research projects.

Shared forms of housing for climate transformation (Principal Investigator): a systems-mapping knowledge synthesis investigating the potential role of shared forms of housing in supporting climate transformation.

HouseWell: a project examining the planning and development of collaborative and shared housing as intermediate housing models that can support older adults’ health and well-being.

AGE-15: a transnational project exploring pathways towards age-friendly neighbourhoods through knowledge transfer, collaborative approaches, and capacity building for the transition towards the 15-minute city.

Past research 

I completed a joint PhD at the University of Liège and Hasselt University in Belgium. My doctoral and postdoctoral research has explored how residential environments, from individual homes to collective living settings, shape older people’s health and well-being. This work has notably been developed through the following projects:

HabitAge (Postdoctoral research): an interdisciplinary study exploring how the characteristics of older adults’ homes and neighbourhoods shape physical activity, sleep, health, and autonomy.
