Scholarship
Currently, I am working in a project concerning a wide-ranging and heavily debated public policy of disability services. We are studying, by way of mixed methods, how local governments in Sweden change their policies for giving disabled people daily service depending on financial situation and other independent variables.
Teaching philosophy
I have been teaching for 18 years at LUSEM and has by now covered all levels in the education system. The last four years, I have focused more and more on thesis writing. I have worked with this on all levels, except for PhD students.
Currently, I hold the position of director of academic studies. In this position, I try to implement my teaching philosophy on a systemic level, starting with the department’s management control and resource allocation systems. My work could be summarised in a few key "principles":
- have the students thinking, talking, reading, and writing. Increase teacher / student interface, both in time and in place
- teaching and learning benefit from case-based material and pedagogical settings,
- have the students prepare before class so that the time in class is spent on high quality and engaged discussions around the subject matter.
- use modern IT technology in order to reallocate resources from time-consuming low-energy activities, such as manual grading of simple knowledge / route learning tests, towards small group settings of face-to-face feedback sessions.
The bottom line for me is that true learning is best based on interest and internal motivation. That requires us to be interesting for students, relevant, and acting with some level of trusting authority.
The studies and the publications produced have contributed to debate and practice within the public sector management.
Before undergraduate studies, I spent nine years in different work positions. Since the dissertation, consultancy work has complemented the position as teaching faculty at the school.
