Personal profile

Research

My main research lines are based on chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) disease ischemic heart disease and myocardial microvascular dysfunction with a special focus on sex-related physiological and pathophysiological differences.

In this human translational research program, we aim to provide new insights into sex-related differences in the coronary microvasculature in healthy myocardium as well as in CCS. The proposed study combines super-resolution histology of explanted human hearts with clinical studies in healthy volunteers and in patients with signs of CCS.

By using unique state-of-the-art cardiac imaging, including magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear imaging, exercise testing and confocal microscopy, we attempt to establish a scientific foundation for sex-specific diagnostics and tailored treatment.
