Research

Ambassador Ingmar Karlsson entered into service in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1967 after completing degrees in Economics, Political Science, French and History and Ideas of Learning in Gothenburg. From 1975-79 he was the Head of section for Middle East and North Africa in the political department of the Ministry, and from 1979-83 he was Chargé d´affaires in Damaskus and Amman. In 2001-2008 he was Consul General in Istanbul.

Ingmar has been a Senior Fellow at CMES and Senior Research Fellow at Istanbul Kültür University since 2009. He was awarded a honorary Doctorate of Divinity at Lund University in 2002 and a honorary Doctorate of Philosophy at Växjö University in 2007. He is the author of 26 books, among them The Roots of Evil – the Partition of the Middle East and the implications today (2016), No Friends but the Mountains -  The History of the Kurds (2017) and The new world disorder –essays on religion, nation, identity and politics (2020).
