Research

Isak Hammar, PhD, Associate professor. His research focuses on the history of humanities, and particularly on the relationship between the humanities and the natural sciences during the first half of the 19th century. Recent publications include “Classical Nature: Natural History, Classical Humanism and the Value of Knowledge in Sweden, 1800–1850” in Journal for the History of Knowledge and "Unity Lost: Negotiating the ancient roots of Pedagogy in Sweden,1865–1971" (History of Education Review, 2022), co-authored by Hampus Östh Gustafsson.

Together with Johan Östling, he is the editor of the Forum section “The Circulation of Knowledge and the History of Humanities” for History of humanities (2021).
