Isak Hammar, PhD, Associate professor. His research is focused on the history of humanities, in particular during the 19th century. His main research project, financed by the Swedish Research Council (2022-2026) analyses the impact of scholarly journals for the development of the humanities during the 19th and early 20th century. 

Recent publications include “Classical Nature: Natural History, Classical Humanism and the Value of Knowledge in Sweden, 1800–1850” in Journal for the History of Knowledge; "Measuring up to the Humanities: Navigating the Epistemological Advantage of Classical Humanism in Mid-19th Century Scholarly Periodicals", in Anders Ekström & Hampus Östh Gustafsson (eds.), The Humanities and the Modern Politics of Knowledge: Historicizing the Impact and Organization of the Humanities in Sweden 1850–2020 (2022) and "Unity Lost: Negotiating the ancient roots of Pedagogy in Sweden,1865–1971" (History of Education Review, 2022), co-authored by Hampus Östh Gustafsson.

Together with Hampus Östh Gustafsson, he is the editor of the Forum section “What is the History of the Humanities” for History of humanities (2023).
