Research

The focus of my research is exploring neurodevelopmental disorders in human brain tissue models. My current focus is to develop an in vitro human brain model of Gauchers disease, the most common form of lysosomal storage disorder. Using organoid technologies I can develop specific brain regions from patient stem cells to investigate disease progression over time. Using expertise in CRISPR editing and functional imaging, we hope to identify abberant lysosomal flux and calcium activity in neuronal and glial cells that may lead to neurodegeneration. Our ultimate goal in the project is to identify novel therapeutic avenues.
