Research

Second-year PhD student researching narrative creation and perpetuation in bog body research, and the perception of bogs, peatlands and wetlands as spaces/places through time, mainly through the application of queer theory, posthumanism and anthropo(de)centrism.

My key research areas are:

  • human remains from bogs, fens and intertidal/coastal peat environments
  • the 'phenomenon' of bog bodies in NW Europe
  • narrative creation in bog body research
  • death traditions and folklore
  • the bog environment as a specific landscape/space
  • queer theory, posthumanism, more-than-humanism

More widely, I am interested in bryology, ethics in the use of human remains in research, using digital techniques in archaeological research, teaching and education, archaeological theory and critical theory, environmental humanities, the protection and preservation of wetlands, peats and bogs.
