Dr. Jenny Nelander Wahlestedt has a MSc in Biomedicine from Lund University and did her PhD education at Lund University with Prof. Malin Parmar, where she studied the human ventral mesencephalon with focus on mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons. Dr. Wahlestedt defended her PhD thesis (Characterization of human dopaminergic neurons in the developing mesencephalon and upon differentiation of stem cells - for cell replacement therapy in Parkinson's disease) in 2013.
After her PhD studies she was employed at Skåne University Hospital in Lund, being responsible for tissue and cell preparation for the clinical trial TransEuro (https://transeuro.org.uk/pages/partners.html), in which patients with Parkinson´s disease was transplanted with dopaminergic neurons derived from human fetal tissue. In 2017 she was recruited back to the research group of Prof. Malin Parmar as a staff scientist, mainly focusing on the translational work required to introduce hESC derived dopaminergic neurons to the clinic, the STEM-PD trial.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
