Research

My main topic of research is past climate reconstructions using proxy data and isotope enabled regional and global circulation models. I have studied the Greenland climate and isotope variability in precipitation for the present, for periods during Holocene, the most recent glacial and the previous interglacial, the Eemian. Through modeling experiments and analysis of ice core data I have investigated the signature of the atmospheric circulation in the isotopic composition of Greenland precipitation (δ18O), as well as the annual cycle and spatial distribution of the source area and circulation proxy the deuterium excess. In addition I study the isotopic composition of monsoon precipitation using models and speleothems on timescales of millennial to annual variability.

I am presently involved in a number of projects to produce climate field reconstructions using data assimilation techniques for the North Atlantic region and Indian/East Asian monsoon areas. I am intrerested in isotopic proxies from tree ring cellulose, lake sediments, speleothems and ice cores.
In summary I am dealing with the question of past and present natural climate variability through the means of advanced modeling and isotopic temperature/precipitation/humidity/circulation proxies.
