I am a professor and senior consultant cardiac surgeon with a longstanding interest in the intersection of medicine, mathematics, and technology. Born in Kristianstad and raised near Lake Råbelöv, I initially pursued engineering physics at Lund University but soon found my true calling in medicine. I earned my MD in 1993 and defended my PhD in 2005 on risk stratification in cardiac surgery—an early step in my effort to integrate data-driven approaches into clinical care.
Today, I lead a multidisciplinary research group in Lund focused on transforming heart transplantation through medical technology and artificial intelligence. Our work spans the full transplant journey—from donor heart preservation to post-operative monitoring—with the goal of improving long-term outcomes. We analyze data from international registries, biobanks, and ongoing clinical trials, including a studies on new state-of-the-art organ-preserving and evaluation devices developed in Lund.
