Personal profile

Research

My research focuses around developing engineered recombinant proteins for material and biomaterial applications, which is relevant for instance for novel regenerative treatments or for tissue engineering, but also for technical applications.

I primarily work with proteins from extracellular enamel matrix, in particular the protein amelogenin and engineered variants thereof. Amelogenin can self-assemble and form different types of nanostructures which have properties that interesting to explore in material applications. Amelogenin can also template strukture and organization of mineral crystal at nano- and micro scales, which is interesting for development of novel nanostructured mineral-based materials, both for medical and technological applications.
