Personal profile

Research

I’m a marine biologist with a special interest in marine mammals and other top predators. My research focuses on their ecological role, interactions with prey, and how they are affected by natural and anthropogenic factors in their environment.

My doctoral thesis focused on the harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) and its spatiotemporal distribution, diet, and foraging behaviour. The results allow us to better understand how harbour porpoises use their habitat in space and time, and provide important information for conservation actions.

I use many different techniques for data collection, including passive and active acoustics, visual observations collected by use of drones, and biological samples from collected dead animals.

The research is based at Lund University, but carried out in collaboration with the Marine Biological Research Centre at the University of Southern Denmark. I also collaborate with the Museum of Natural History in Stockholm (NRM), the Swedish National Veterinary Institute (SVA) and several Swedish governmental authorities.
