Current research and teaching 

Julia Mao’s current research project studies the political economy of biodiversity financing, with a focus on the roles of Swedish public expenditures for biodiversity conservation and their relation to financial markets. It is a part of the MISTRA Biopath Programme at Lund University. She is also a Research Fellow at UNDP, working for the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN). 

Prior to the PhD studies, she served as the Director of International Cooperation and a researcher at the International Institute of Green Finance (IIGF), carrying outresearch projects,policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement. Her research covers global sustainable finance, biodiversity finance, and gender finance related topics.
