Research

The title of my PhD dissertation is Framing the Subjects: Human Rights and Photography in Contemporary Thailand (Lund University, 2020).

I study photography and activism for human rights in Thailand. The temporal and spatial point of departure is the 1970s political and violent events in Bangkok, but I also analyse contemporary photography that engages with questions concerning state violence and the production of impunity. The main question quiding this project is the relationship between photography and the appearance of a subject of human rights in the Thai nation-state.

My research interests are human rights history and discourse, photography and images, archiving, political exile, nationalism and Thai political history.
